Serbian Orthodox Monastery Dragović

Croatia

Vrlike (Splitsko - dalmatinska županija)

Located along the banks of the Cetina River, not far from Lake Peruća, Dragović Monastery is one of the most important spiritual and cultural landmarks in the Dalmatian region.
Founded in the late 14th century, the monastery has been rebuilt and relocated several times throughout history. In the 1950s, due to the construction of the hydroelectric power plant on the Cetina River and the formation of Lake Peruća, the monastery was relocated.

Today, it is best known for the unique phenomenon where its remnants occasionally emerge from the lake when water levels drop — creating a striking and memorable sight for visitors. Dragović is one of the three historic Serbian Orthodox monasteries in Dalmatia, alongside Krka and Krupa Monasteries.

The monastery is dedicated to the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God and every year draws pilgrims for the Great Feast of the Dormition. While only a small number of monks reside there today, the monastery remains a powerful symbol of spiritual life, preserving valuable icons and manuscripts.

How to get there:
Dragović Monastery is accessible by car from the direction of Vrlika and Sinj. The best time to visit is in late summer or autumn, when the lake’s water level typically recedes.

Visit Dragović Monastery — a place where spirituality meets natural beauty, offering an unforgettable sense of peace.
