San Giovanni Fortress (also known as St. John’s Fortress) rises above the Old Town of Kotor at an elevation of around 280 meters. Built over several centuries, primarily under Venetian rule, it was a vital point in the city’s defense. The fortress is accessed via a stone path with approximately 1,350 steps, but the climb rewards visitors with spectacular panoramic views of Kotor and the bay. Its ancient walls and ruins reflect the spirit of past centuries, making it a favorite spot for tourists, hikers, and photographers alike.
